Are you saving the commission?
Are you really saving the commission when you sell by yourself?

Let's examine what can go wrong:

1) You will either reduce your price by the commission amount or a portion of the commission so that you can gain an advantage in attracting a buyer or the buyer will remove the amount of the commission from their offer, if you get them to make an offer.

2) Even if you are a skilled negotiator you are at a disadvantage because you cannot act as a 3rd party intermediary. Because buying and selling a home is an emotional process, effective negotiating is done when there is a buffer between the buyer and seller, otherwise emotions can spoil the deal.
